What do you get when you take an ordinary Fairlane, remove two doors and add a bunch of luxury equipment? The answer is the Ford Torino. Available as a fastback, coupe and even convertible, the flagship GT model didn’t bother with any six-cylinder nonsense, and instead offered only V8 engines under its hood. The 302 was the base engine, but a big block 390 and even 427 were optional. Then there’s the matter of the slightly insane 428 Cobra Jet. Featuring a 4-speed manual transmission, the Torino GT was capable of running low 14s, a time comparable to that of a 90s Mustang GT, let alone a 60s muscle car.
